do you still see it near you or do your locals use the loan sharks, last time i saw someone use the slate was in a pub in manchester town centre about 11 years back

the reason i ask is i saw a bloke who i use to see in the pub from years ago and i stopped and had a chat with yesterday and he had got himself in debt with the dwp stopping and then restarting his benefit

One of my local shops will let you 'buy' bread and so forth until the giro arrives. The do have a sign saying 'No Credit' though, but presumably it's ok for regular customers for a few pounds for a few days.

I have an account with my local shop. They have a minimum spend on cards so If I just want milk or sugar then I put it on tab.
Thanks Dr F. I just had a quick look at Whitle Down the Wind. One of my favourites.
damn it ^ whistle!
Hi!...we would use the term "on tick" for delaying payment at the shops.

Yepp. that BP is not good Doc, I suppose that you re already on BP lowering tablets.....I would see you GP.
Question Author
amlodipine 5mg

it has started to drop, i think after 4 weeks it was 185 or 6 , i have to go back and have it checked again in about 3 weeks
Yepp, that is a small dose. it sounds as though it needs "upping" or another BP lowering drug to take with the Amlodipine.

You GP will get you sorted.
Question Author
i think it is the lipitor that is sending it up but he is adamant that i carry on taking them
Doc....I think it highly unlikely that statins would raise your BP........anyway, keep us informed.

A few years back my pals had a pub in the East End and he used to cash giros for his clients that way they cleared last weeks slate plus once they got their money from the post office they would go to the nearest pub which was not theirs, so he cut out the middle man !

Dee Sa in the late seventies there was a pub in salford and people who had problems or wanted advice on benefits would go in and see this person

you would be expected to buy a drink for yourself and buy him a pint because of the number of people every afternoon going into to see him the landlord would charge you his pint and put it on a tally.
he would then have free drinks in the evening and at weekends

people would sit and wait ages some days just to get his advice he was very well known and very clever when it came to dealing with benefit problems
That your bike Dr?
hi dr f - nice to see you :-)
