Came down early hours to get a glass of water and found a live mouse racing round my lounge, with my 2 cats chasing it. Shut lounge door to stop it coming upstairs. Have come back down and no sight of it! God knows where it’s gone!!
It's probably gone out. Mice can get through the tiniest gaps - even under doors. You'll know if it's still around. It will leave its own little 'messages'.
Smow have you been brave enough to go into the lounge?
If you have, look up at your curtains and behind them as they sometimes run up curtains away from the cats.
If you can't see it, check for any little holes around the skirting board to find if you can, where they came in.
It will probably have hidden away out of reach of feline claws - which could be absolutely anywhere (including inside your sofa).
I'd put a trap out for it and exclude the cats. The cats will just chase it back into its hiding place. It'll come out for tasty food in a trap (chocolate or peanut butter tends to work quite well). You can also get humane traps so it doesn't get hurt.
If it is still alive, you need to act since they can do a huge amount of damage.
Exactly the same thing happened with our two cats a few years ago.
The following morning, Mrs gumboot came down and was unable to find any trace of the mouse. Later on that day, one of the kids found the mouse's tail in the corner of the room.
A vet told me a few weeks later that some cats are reluctant to eat the tails of rodents, so keep looking....
x ray the cats and look for mouse ( oops murine) teeth
This should have been done but wasnt, in the disappearance of Mrs Muriel McKay - who might ( after her death) been fed to the pigs. X rays wd have revealed bits of her ( teeth). This is not a comment on the current Met
