Tattoos!

I was horrified today. We were in Aldi's in Ross, there was a little girl sitting in the trolley about 5 years of age. She had a tattoo on her shoulder.
What can a parent be thinking of to allow this?

I think tattoos are hideous, but couldn't care less what anyone else does to their body. All sorts of people, from all walks of life, have tattoos - so long as they don't expect me to follow suit, I'll just keep on ignoring them.

I adore beautiful, well done tattoos. Love when they have some colour in them. I was at a wedding and a young guest in a floaty, knee length dress had a gorgeous tattoo on her calf...a work of art.
Yes they will look a bit scraggy when the skin has aged but then so does aged skin without a tattoo...but on a well toned body a tattoo can be lovely.... :-)

If we take the child out the equation (obviously) it's really none of my business what others do.

My daughter has some fabulous artwork and some I'm not so keen on, her choice.

Transfers as a kid was fun. Never been keen on permanently marring one's body when older. Doesn't seem rational, and doesn't look good.

It may be "marring" to you, og, but obviously it isn't to them, which surely is what matters? I don't see the rationale about regret, if it means something, it means something... unless you all know a lot of people who have no idea what they like... but if you aren't sure of what or where you want one, don't get one.

My dad had one on his forearm. His forearm didn't seem to age much but the colours did change.

My 80 year old dad has a tattoo that he had done was he was 16. I can’t say it looks great now, but nor does the untattooed arm.

Yes clover, I suspect my supermodel days might well be over when I am 90 anyway :-). But I am surprised that people would either care, or think we would.

agree with gness, some look lovely. The son of a frend of mine is a tattooist, and he's got the face of a baby covering much of one upper arm (not done by himself, presumably). It's beautiful. The baby was his girlfriend's, not his, but had died, so he did it as a memorial.

There are a lot of unregulated home tat artists. Kits are bought on the internet. Not sure if a parent can be prosecuted if they are the artist.

I think anyone can be prosecuted for abuse. It might be possible... if you can get a child to stay still for long enough, but I fi d it hard to believe.
