Naomi at 09.47, as part of reconnaissance of a water supply project a few of us working there once went into a woodland to follow a small watercourse to its source. We spent maybe 3 hours in there and then re-emerged onto the construction site. One of us expressed huge relief that it was over, he had never been into woodland in his entire life of perhaps 30 years or so. He was African and the woodland was called a jungle. I took this simply to be specific to this one individual and his city dweller upbringing. I don't recall him ever suggesting that it was a cultural matter or that he was typical of his fellow countrymen. I do think he will possibly have felt that this was a somewhat "foreign" enterprise, the rest of us were Westerners. It is worth noting that with the most notable exception of Indonesia, Muslim countries do not generally have much that could be called woodland areas, so that could explain the TV presenter's mindset - she was probably referring to the circumstances of all those she knows and the country of her background.
