Printer Offline

I have recently had to change my router.  After great difficulty I managed to get the printer (HP 2710 deskjet) to register the new wifi.  However although it says it is connected, when I try to print it states it is offline and/or printer error.  I have cancelled all documents and cant see what else to do.  Any ideas please?  The actual printer works as it prints out printer information direct from the printer, just not via the computer.  Have tried turning it all off and on again!

You could try uninstalling your printer, and then reinstalling it.

I'm convinced all printers are the work of the devil, and have minds of their own.

You need to either set the printer up, as if from new, to recognise the new router pass key by using the printer keypad. This is usually a nightmare. Or you need to, again as if a new installation, set up the wifi connection to pair with the router wifi.

You could also try to let the computer troubleshoot for you. Go to settings and choose devices. In devices choose printers and scanners. Your printer should be there if the pc has it recognised via your router wifi or cable. If not choose add printer. If it is there run the troubleshooter and see what that comes up with.

If the pc is recognising the printer it may be woth checking the box that says let windows manage my default printer. I am assuming that you are using windows of course.

Thanks very much to you all.  Will give your suggestions a try and let you know how it goes!

One question though Togo - my printer doesn't have a keypad??

The printer wireless icon is solid blue, i.e. meaning it is connected to wifi?(first of all, after switching the router, it was continually flashing).

Thanks

Just looked it up. Lucky you   ...   it is wifi only connection and if you are happy that the printer wifi shook hands with the router then yoyu need to check the pc to printer connection. As I said in settings(Windows icon keyboard or click on windows icon bottom left on taskbar) Then settings(cog icon), then Devices , then Printers and scanners. If it is not listed then you need to add it. The new wifi router has obviously meant that you lost the pc/printer pairing.

I`d go with TSP, clear out all mentions of your printer then download the latest drivers from

ooops from the manufacturers website

Eventually got it to work,  combination of uninstalling and reinstalling, and then using a cable to connect the printer to the laptop and ignoring the wifi connection which still didn't work.  (I had tried using a cable earlier but this didn't work either then).  This doesn't matter to me, as I always use the printer/laptop in the same place, and whatever works......

As has been said above, printers are the work of the devil and a nightmare!  Thanks everybody for all your help, much appreciated.
