If I've booked online & chosen 4:30pm, does this mean I have to go & join the ridiculously long queue with the aim of being at the front of it at 4:30pm??

I do belive that you`ve got to pick up the tickets with the card you paid with. There it would give a time that you booked but they give you 30 mins either way. The queue moves pritty quick. Enjoy your day.
I've been on it and I can't see any need to book, no one asked me whether i'd booked I just turned up paid and joined the queue which does move very quickly.
The time on your ticket is really only so that should they get ridiculously busy at any given time, they can insist that only those with the correct times on the tickets are let on.I've been on the eye twice and was probably an hour away from the time on my tikcet - I had no problem either time. Enjoy it!
