Check out the historical stuff in here S-matrix, and you'll see that there were times when numericals averaged about one per month (occasionally one every two weeks), so I don't think the quarterly is overdoing it, even though I don't particularly like them. Also I think there are space constraints, so two Listeners in a week is unlikely to be acommodated.
turnerjmw - I really gave up looking for the misprints because I was not particularly enjoying the puzzle. The comments here merely suggested to me that I was not missing much by ignoring the loose ends. Actually, I just returned to it (anything's better than wall-to-wall England match) and saw quite quickly what was going on - guess it explains to me why we got extra words AND misprints, but I was still a little underwhelmed. Big PDM just about when Germany scored! Thought the puzzle was just straightforward and almost didn't bother with finding the misprints but enjoyed the final twist involving all those other words.
Oh and Germany have just scored again. Nevermind. Listeners are more fun. Especially now I have had my birthday and received the much coveted CD rom of Chambers!

No problem at all cluelessJoe. How much effort one wishes to put into a puzzle is entirely a personal thing. I wouldn't dream of telling you what to do. I guess I just assumed you were going for all-correct, and thus was a tad surprised. I agree that life is far too short to spend time flogging through puzzles one doesn't enjoy. In this case, my point, I think, was that there was a final pdm, albeit not an earthshattering one, and thus the final step needn't be a pure slog.

According to Wikipedia it can also mean Partido Demócrata Mexicano, but that does not seem relevant in this case.

I've got grid filled in apart from 8d. I suppose unchecked letter has to be one of two, but as the answer isn't in Chambers I'm not sure how to get to it as the cryptic clue has me baffled. I haven't worked out all the correct letters yet, but will keep trying. I don't know what 32a is either, apart from the grid element. It seems to be possible to complete this one with a less than complete understanding. On a different note, the cricket was more exciting than the footie!

Teuchter2 - You really want to get 32ac for yourself - it's such a good clue. As for 8d - unless you are a fair age it might not mean much to you, but some patient Googling of more likely of the 5 possible answers might help, and the word play turns out to be very straightforward.

PDM this morning - certainly satisfying to wrap it all up even though it did not change the grid. 32a is a great clue and 8d a classic, I recommend looking it up on YouTube to appreciate fully.

Anyone who is having a problem with the misprinted letters may see what is going on if they look closely at both the clues and the answers to, for example, 12a and 16d, or 26d and 28d

shelouse, not that I am the Commander of the Listener Police, or anything like that, but that seems to be giving away a lot of information in response to a question that no one asked.

dr b, sorry if I have offended. I tried not to give anything away, reasoning that if one had not solved these clues it wouldn't have been of any use. I did it as quite a few people have said on the thread that they are unable to work out what is going on even though they have completed the grid

It is a fairly clever puzzle, some nice clues, and, to my mind, a disappointing PDM. But I was a bit riled by the number of times a) the letters for the answer were given "in plain" and b) the wordplay seemed to be in two parts. Not Bufo's best.
