Mother Lets 12yo Daughter Have Sex.
47 Answers
Is this woman, who put her daughter on the pill at age 11, and who now allows her, at 12, to have sex with a 14yo boyfriend, fit to be a parent?
She's condoning the boy to commit unlawful sexual intercourse/rape with her own daughter.
Surely she ought to be prosecuted and have her children taken into protective custody?

Difficult one this and I change my mind every time I read a post, but it is often the responsible, educated mothers, that take this attitude and the irresponsible poorly educated, often single mothers who don´t. So we get to the stage where the majority of wanted/unwanted teenaged pregnancies come from the poorly educated and irresponsible parents.

Yes, and I suppose any doctor who gives the pill to or injects a 12 year old with a contraceptive vaccine is to be prosecuted for conspiring in or encouraging unlawful sex !
The only thing the mother is doing wrong is not warning off an underage boyfriend, telling him of the law and advising her daughter accordingly. But let's be realistic as to the rest. Putting the girl into 'protective custody' isn't going to achieve anything unless she's locked up 24/7, which she won't be. Her mother had our daughter on the pill as soon as our girl was, was suspected of being or likely to be (we are both lawyers; you can tell from the language !), sexually active (15 years). This mother has faced facts, at least, though they don't speak much for her maternal skills

Why has this country got the worse record for teenage pregnancies in Western Europe. In my opinion it's because we don't actually parent any more and there is no respect for family values. Just go to most other European countries (I can't speak for Scandinavia as I haven't been there) and the family and family values are paramount. All generations mix together with respect. We have a culture now of children being a separate breed with their own culture and there is acceptance of the fact that kids have sex and the babies of these young girls are welcomed with enthusiasm. Grandmothers look after them proudly whilst the daughters go back to school.
That's my old fashioned view and I am sticking to it.

Yes ummmm, that is completely different and you are obviously a responsible parent with family values. My mum thought I shouldn't be on the pill when I was 23!!!! She went hysterical. No wonder I kept my social life a secret from her from the age of 17. She thought at 23 I was about to lose my virginity and I got the 'He'll never marry you, you know" talk. Well, it wasn't marriage that was on my mind, but he did marry me nevertheless!!
The best contraceptive is fright.
If you know that you are not going to be welcomed with open arms by your parents or society, then you think twice about taking the chance of being pregnant.
Now, society doesn´t care a toss, parents welcome them with open arms, so with that sociological status quo..........put them all on the pill.

It's extremely interesting to note that virtually everyone who has responded, and thanks a lot for doing so, seems to be focusing primarily on the moral aspects surrounding the girl+her mother in this story, yet no one appears to be remotely interested in the lad, or the ramifications of the laws regarding USI.
That isn't a criticism of any of you nice folks, I think it just demonstrates how people view such extreme cases. Thanks, and keep the comments coming.

sqad - don't be ridiculous, I'm concerned about the welfare of youngsters as much as anyone else, I was just refusing to react to the 'reportage' due to the way it was presented.
This youngster's welfare is a totally separate issue upon which I refused to comment -on principle.
Rags like this (and News Of The World/Sunday Sport/The Sun etc) constantly dredge up sad stories of 'innocence lost' then tart it up on purpose to make it look as insideous and sick as possible. That's why I refused to take the bait.

ummmm,
Forgive me for I beg to differ, simply because under UK law, the girl is too young to consent to the sex, therefore the lad could indeed be prosecuted for "statutory rape", and the mother may also be prosecuted for aiding and abetting the offence.
I also have to strongly disagree with the opinions some have expressed about the mother acting "responsibly" (or similar) by allowing one so young not only to be indulging in some form of contraception, but more worryingly, to brazenly encourage the child to be sexually violated by the teenage boy. What would her reaction be if it were a mature man instead? Would she also encourage paedophilia?
The ramifications of this are, to me, hugely disturbing and I cannot condone the behaviour of the adult concerned. The relevant authorities ought to be informed.
