The argument that 'I haven't met a religious person who killed me for my belief' is clearly a self defeating one.
You, like myself, have been very lucky in that we haven't met any fundamentalist Islamic morons nor any fundamentalist Christian muppets, or anyone else who thinks we are less than human and deserve to die because we chose to believe in something different from themselves.
But you surely don't deny that people like this exist do you?
The reason they exist is purely down to religious teachings.
If you take the Koran, read it and augment your own morality with it's twisted version of what is right and what is wrong, then you will have to believe that it's permissible (some might say desirable) to kill a person who ceases to be a Muslim and becomes a non-believer. You have to believe this, as Mohammed tells us that this is the will of God and that the Koran is immutable.
The fact is, religion poisons the minds of mankind and tells the appalling lie that without religion, mankind would sink into barbarism. Conveniently forgetting that organised religion has only existed for a few thousand years and that mankind got on perfectly well (sublimely demonstrated by the fact that you and I exist) without Mohammed, Moses, Jesus, Abraham, etc. for many millennia before these self-proclaimed holy men appeared.
I know you don't agree Jake, but I think that religion poisons everything.
