Having previously lived in Saudi Arabia for 3 years I possibly have more first hand expierience here than most .
It is made abundantly clear from the first time you apply for a job in Saudi that it is a diffrent world from virtually anywhere else.
For a start there are NO tourists or holiday makers at all , there is no entertainment of any sort .
Saudi TV shows news and religious programs only.
There are no public places where members of the opposite sex can be together unless they are closely related . For example restaurants have 2 sections , Men and Family .
No female can go out of the house unless she is fully veiled and has a male relative to accompany her , women can not drive, recent news of some women flouting this law has dried up as the women in question have now been arrested and flogged.
I was in Saudi for 3 Ramadans and we all respected the not eating or drinking where a Muslim might see you.
Non Muslims can only get 2 types of visa for Saudi , Work visa or transit visa.
There is no such thing as a tourist / visitors visa . Non Saudi Muslims can get Haj visa that allows them to go on a pilgrimage to Mecca , but even they can not get a permanent visa.
In short no one not even another Muslim goes to Saudi unless they have to or want to . The only Non Saudis in Saudi Arabia are there on temporary visa's that can be withdrawn for any reason at any time. Once your visa is withdrawn you have 24 hours to get out of the country , no questions no appeal.
By the way the penalty for adultery is a choice of being crucified or stoned to death and adultery is defined as sex between any man and woman who a are not legally married . You could have a partner who have lived as man and wife for 20 years or more but if they are alone together that is a crime, if they have sex that is adultery and the it is a compulsory death sentence for the woman . In reality it is impossible a man and woman could even get a visa as a couple , it would be 2 seperate visas .
