i have been qouted 34 a month for my water rate for a 2 bedroom flat in walsall west midlands, my mother in law only pays 22 a month for her 4 bedroom house 5 miles down the raod is it me or does this seem a bit steep?
As I understand it water rates are based on the old rateable value of the house (ie the rates before the poll tax came in). If you live alone or there are only 2 or 3 of you in the flat, it may be cheaper to get a water meter fitted.
I queried my water rates for my 2 bedroom flat and was told that the water rates are set to the rateable value of the property which is set by the local council and cannot be changed.
I would have a water meter as their are only the two of us ..but i tend to use a lot with the washer going two times a day sometimes more!!...and i do a lot of gardening so i dont want to end up paying more!!..a friend of mine had a water meter and saved nothing and their were only two of them..and i have a extravagant nature so will have to stay with the bill...
