I knew that once you got into the habit you wouldn't stop. I just don't buy shop bread any more unless we are away from home. Homemade bread is just so much more substantial and tastes so good!!
I usually make wholemeal with Allinsons flour - their Country Grain flour is excellent too!!
Stottie is a traditional geordie bread,my mum, a sand-dancer used to bake normal bread three days a week and stotties on the two days, When I was living at home Tuesdays and Thursdays snap was always proper geordie snap, stottie, home cooked ham and pease pudding, can't remember her recipe but here's one I just found that sounds about right

There's quite a few of us from that area down here, my folks came down here in 1926,but we had an influx 60's when a lot of the NE pits were closed, my mums all time favorite series (it was to good to be called a soap) was "When The Boat Comes In" she always said it brought back so many memories of her childhood
