I am curious to know that when a bird digs up a worm and swallows it, how long does the worm live, any ideas

Probably not very long, they may not appear to chew them up in their beaks much but food is ground up in the birds gizzard before it go's through the rest of the digestive system, this is why birds need to eat grit.
